Debut albums are always difficult. On their first steps, artists are still trying to discover their identity so it’s not that uncommon to have either a really good first album or a really bad one.
Thankfully Mighty Oaks have managed to produce a really solid album. It’s been on my playlist ever since I bought it and I have a feeling it will stay there for quite a while! If you like Mumford and Sons you would probably like to give this album a listen or two.
Folk is the driving force behind the music and I must say the trio from Berlin did justice to the genre. Beautiful melodies and lyrics full of nostalgia are the main ingredients behind every song. There’s not a single song I wanted to skip and I always listen to the album from start to finish. Something that doesn’t happen that often anymore!
Even if you despise Mumford and Sons though, I would still advise you to give this album a try! Mumford sometimes come off a little bit too whiny with songs that seem purposefully anthemic. Don’t get me wrong! Mumford’s first album “Sigh no more” is among my favourites. But I can see why people might have some hesitations about them.
Mighty Oaks on the other hand are as sincere and honest as possible. They seem to not try hard and I mean it in the best possible way! It’s odd to hear that a band with members from all over the world (USA, UK, Italy) decided to go with the folk genre. From all things! But it works! Hope they have a bright future and albums as good as this one! They deserve it! To close this post off, I’ll leave you with the video of their bigger hit on their album. Hope you like it!
